Roofivent ECO Install Guide | Roofing University School
Featuring the Best Damn Roofer
"Hot and windy day in southern Ontario. We’re out roofing and ran into a problem yesterday."
The situation
The original homeowner vented the dryer into the attic, then out through a mushroom roof vent. In winter, snow covered the vent and pushed hot air back into the building.
Fix: swap to a Roofivent ECO and pipe it correctly.
Roofivent ECO with attachment collar
Roof pipe and collar already set in place
Caulking for the full flange
Fasteners for the front bib area
Utility knife, marker, driver, and a level
BDR likes two rows of shingles under the flange for a clean, weather-tight bed. Mark and score the area.
“Give it a little scratch.”
Do not caulk yet. Slide the roof vent into position to check fit.
If you don’t nail around, the unit slides up into place. Dry-fit until the collar lines up.
“Before I set this, it’s a dry fit… you make a mess if you caulk first.”
Pull the roof vent, then lay a continuous bead around the entire flange.
Seat the roof vent back into position.
Engage the attachment collar until you hear the click.
“Oh, you hear the click… it’s like a little tank.”
“Set it and forget it.” Use a level to dial it in so there are no excuses later.
“Look how adorable they are… set it and forget it.”
Drive the last few screws across the front of the bib to seal it and finish.
The team dropped the roof vent three or four times on the roof during setup. Still solid.
Made of polypropylene that’s tough to penetrate. BDR compares it to going through metal.
“Had it in the back of the truck, bundles slammed on it… like trying to pierce Superman’s cape.”
Dry-fit first to avoid smeared caulk and messy hands.
Two shingle courses under the flange improves the bed and shed.
Listen for the click so you know the collar is fully seated.
A little extra sealant where it counts won’t hurt. “Like grandma said… just stick her in.”
Final pass: add front-bib screws for a clean seal and finish.
“One of the most durable vents I’ve ever installed and the most fun I’ve ever had installing a vent. That’s why I partnered with them. Roofing University certified. Best Damn Roofer approved.”
Big tip hack from BDR to close it out.
Q: Why not caulk before sliding it in?
A: You’ll smear the flange and your hands. Dry-fit to confirm alignment, then caulk once.
Q: How do I know it’s seated?
A: You should feel and hear the click at the collar.
Q: Is this roof vent job-site tough?
A: Yes. It handled drops, truck abuse, and bundles. The polypropylene shell is extremely rigid.
